First Generation-Students
You are the first in your family studying, and are feeling lost?
Did you know, that the social background in Germany still influences students’ choice of major and academic success? People who are the first to study in their family often have a harder time at an university than their peers with an academic background. There are several initiatives and efforts underway to address this imbalance:
The University Group FirstGenKA together with Arbeiterkinde.de are the first contacts for support. These Groups consist of students, doctoral students and people in the professional world, supporting and encouraging prospective and current students along their journey.
They offer a safe space for al First-Generation-Students, sharing experiences, inspiring and encouraging. But also in all Committees, Councils, Commissions, and bodies, First-Generation-Students are sought after and welcome (as mentors or as students with different perspectives, obstacles and challenges).
