The Executive Board of KIT consists of five Members and leads the KIT. There is the president and four vice presidents.
Prof. Dr. Jan S. Hesthaven
The President of KIT is responsible for the strategic orientation of KIT, social dialogue, international orientation and talent development, addressing future-oriented topics, as well as organizational and representational duties.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirth
The Vice President Transfer and International Affairs is responsible for strategic connection of research, economy, and society. Internationalization and mobility are his field of work, as well as building and maintaining networks and partnerships.

Prof. Dr. Kora Krystof
The Vice President Digitalization and Sustainability is responsible for two transformations, relevant for research and the transfer of research findings. Topics of sustainability in the degree programs, realization of the digitalization agenda and the sustainability strategy with the shared path to net greenhouse gas neutrality fall within her remit.

Dr. Stefan Schwartze
The Vice President Operations manages strategic planning, budgeting, financial controlling, and the provision resources for operating KIT.

Prof. Dr. Oliver Kraft
The Vice President Academic Affairs guides the direction of research and fosters excellence in teaching as well as teaching innovations. The governance of degree programs and collaboration with KIT departments and central units are part of his remit.

Vice Provost Research – Prof. Dr. Ina Schaefer
“As Vice Provost Research, I support the Vice President Academic Affairs in advancing research excellence at KIT and creating the right framework conditions for our researchers. My responsibilities include the KIT Centers, coordinated research initiatives such as DFG Graduate Schools and collaborative research centers, as well as shaping the research foci and emerging fields at KIT.”

Vice Provost Research Infrastructures - Prof. Dr. Anke-Susanne Müller
“As Vice Provost Research Infrastructures, I support the VP Academic Affairs in ensuring that researchers and students at KIT have access to the large-scale equipment, laboratories, platforms, and digital services they need for excellent research. I am responsible for strategy and priorities for major equipment and infrastructure and coordinate the corresponding proposals and investments. I am excited to help shape the future at KIT: if we plan our research infrastructures wisely and operate it sustainably, we create today the conditions for the discoveries of tomorrow.”
